It's the 1950s and Hubert's father has been arrested by the secret police, so the boy is sent to live with his eccentric Aunt Ida in Warsaw. At school he must fend off allegations that he is an enemy of the Polish People's Republic and at home he longs to discover his aunt's secrets.
