Welcome once again to Lynch-world--that parallel universe understood only by master David. Jazz musician Fred Madison (Pullman) is on Death Row--supposedly for the murder of his wife Renee (Arquette). Only why does young mechanic Pete Dayton (Getty) wind up in Fred's cell (with Fred missing)? Oh, and why does gangster Mr. Eddy (Loggia) have a girlfriend named Alice (Arquette again) who looks just like Renee? And is she real--or did Fred conjure her up? Who's the Mystery Man (Blake), who literally looks like death warmed over. And.....well, you get the idea. Or maybe you're not supposed to.
