Major Motoko Kusanagi of the Security Police Section 9 is on the trail of a super hacker known as the Puppet Master. His techniques are so advanced that almost nothing is known about him. The time is 2029 and many people are cybernetically enhanced which allows the Puppet Master to make almost anyone his pawn. The more the Major works on the case, the more conflicted she becomes, for all that remains of her original body is a small slice of brain. In a world where the only humanity some people have are their ghosts (or souls), where they may or may not be within the shells (or bodies) they were born with, what happens when a ghost exists where it should not? Along with the philosophical questions about the nature of humanity that are heavily interlaced within the plot, this anime features a slick science fiction story and top-quality animation. Based on the story by Masamune Shirow. A special edition is available which includes the 30-minutes documentary "The Making of Ghost in the Shell."
