College boy Matt (McNamara) brings his fiancee Alison (Loughlin) home to meet his seemingly tranquil but secretly dysfunctional family. Dad (Sikking), a retired military man, and Mom (Besch) expect their children to be perfect but elder brother Tim (Carrey) is a not-so-secret alcoholic, neurotic daughter Karen's (Brook) marriage is in trouble, and Matt himself is hiding a big secret that threatens the harmonious family facade.
