Renie Lake is a troubled teen living with her mother. An incident involving the police sends her living with her father and stepmother in the suburbs where Renie compulsion to rebel grows even more. But a friendship with a deaf college student prevents her from reverting to her past behavior. Based on the novel "Will the Real Renie Lake Please Stand Up?"
