1930s jazz singer Georgia (Williams) sings at a black-owned club that mobster Constanza (Viterelli) wants to take over. Right-hand man Johnny Verona (Cassavettes) is sent to help things along and makes the mistake of falling for the chanteuse amidst a scene of moonshine, gunrunning and racketeering.
