A photo shoot for Esquire magazine, sometime during the summer of 1958, provided a unique opportunity to gather together 57 jazz legends in front of a Harlem brownstone. Included were Charlie Mingus, Gene Kruppa, Sonny Rollins, Coleman Hawkins, Theolonious Monk, Lester Young, Gerry Mulligan, Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie, and Milt Hilton whose wife took home movies of the event. These are interwoven with stills, interviews, some history, and performance footage.
