Documents the lives of children in Romania. Shows how many of them are growing up frightened, ill, and impoverished in institutions for irrecoverables. Explains how this overpopulation problem stemmed from the Communist rule of dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, who encouraged the people in his country to have children. Explains how he outlawed birth control and abortion and heavily taxed families with less than five children. Emphasis is placed on how these rules of the past are affecting the lives of many of the children today. Winner of 20 international awards.
