Mallrats Movie Review 1995

Smith's better-financed follow-up to the legendary "Clerks" follows Jersey slackers T.S. (London) and Brodie (Lee) to the mall, where they intend to wallow in food-court cookies and reclaim their girlfriends, who recently dumped them. While wandering the mall in low-key and confused pursuit of their women and self respect, they encounter the usual band of bizarre inhabitants, including Ivannah, the topless psychic, Silent Bob (Smith) and stoner Jay (Mewes). Dialogue and sightgags are director/writer Smith's strong point; moving the plot forward is not high on the priority list. The ensemble cast, featuring Doherty as the bored babe who spurns Brodie, is up to the often funny sidebits and gen-x references.
