Rivette's ambitious two-part production on the life of Joan of Arc. The first section, "The Battles," follows Joan (Bonnaire) as she becomes convinced that God has spoken to her, and that only she can lead the Dauphin's soldiers and end the English siege of Orleans. "The Prisons" finds the Dauphin crowned King Charles VII and no longer needing Joan's aid--in fact she becomes a hindrance to his plans and is sold to the English for trial and execution. French with subtitles.
