Two program set profiling three relatively unknown African American men who rose from slavery and offered inventions that impacted the world greatly. Lewis Howard Latimer invented the carbon filament for lightbulbs and a process for manufacturing carbons; Jan Matzeliger invented the shoe lasting machine; and Granville T. Woods is most famous for his telgraphy system, although he is the genius behind more than 50 other inventions.
