Music for the Movies: Bernard Herrmann Movie Review 1992

Information and Film Reviews for Music for the Movies: Bernard Herrmann the Movie

Visitor rating
4.0 from 0 reviews

Bernard Herrmann composed 50 film scores in a 35-year career, including a 12-year collaboration with director Alfred Hitchcock. His first was for Orson Welles' "Citizen Kane" in 1941 and his last for Martin Scorsese's "Taxi Driver" in 1976 (released the year after Herrmann's death in '75). Interviews with colleagues and family give an indication of his process of composition and how music functions in a film but little about the man himself is revealed. His scores for Hitchcock included "Vertigo," "North by Northwest," "Psycho," and "Torn Curtain."
