Young boy learns about preconceptions and acceptance through the town recluse, who was thought to "boil children and feed them to his snakes." In actuality, the recluse is an accomplished folk musician and was a close friend of the boy's dead father. Filmed on location in North Carolina. Adaptation of a play by William Stevens who, along with his family, stars in the production, which is directed by his brother John.
