The controversial Jarman uses Benjamin Britten's score, which commemorated the re-opening of a war-damaged cathedral, to realize this thoughtful meditation on war. The only dialog is taken from the poetry of WWI soldier/poet Wilfred Owen. Performed by the London Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, the Melos Ensemble and the Bach Choir.
