Bubblegum Crisis, Episode 1 Movie Review 1987

Mega Tokyo of 2032 is still recovering from an earthquake that split the city and halted construction on Aqua City. The powerful Genom corporation produces androids known as Boomers that sometimes go out of control. When the A.D. Police can't handle them, the Knight Sabers step into action. Beneath the slickest battlesuits ever created are nightclub singer tough girl Priss, A.D. Police officer Nene, aerobics instructor Linna and the group's leader Sylia. This episode not only recounts how the Knight Sabers and their mecha came to be, but also features them on a job. They're hired to recover a kidnapped girl, but there are lots of things about their assignment they haven't been told. A great episode that defines the term "cyberpunk" and has turned countless viewers into lifelong anime fans. More than ten years after its creation, it is still quite enjoyable to watch, now inspiring some nostalgia for the time that produced it. Features an animated nightclub act by Priss and a bonus live action video of Kinuko Oomori singing the same song.
