Newton Davis (Martin), an architect/dreamer, builds his high school sweetheart (Delany) a beautiful house and surprises her with a marriage proposal. She says no, so he has a one-night stand with Gwen (Hawn), who moves into his empty house and assumes the position of Davis's wife, unbeknownst to him. Gwen spins whopper lies and soon has the entire town, including Davis's parents and ex-girlfriend, believing her wacky stories. This romantic screwball comedy is a delight, not only because of Martin and Hawn, but also because of the array of other characters who complicate the stories they spin.
