A disappointing Sherlock Holmes yarn. Heston is adequate as the Baker Street sleuth, but the mystery--about two retired British soldiers who share an accursed secret and a vengeful comrade--unreels clumsily in the form of flashbacks that give away most of the puzzle from the start. Interesting only in that Dr. Watson has a love affair, more or less. Adapted from a play (and looking like it) by Paul Giovanni, inspired by Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Sign of Four."
