This documentary chronicles the enormous fires that engulfed Yellowstone in the Summer of 1988 with amazing film clips of roaring crown fires. The presentation explains the inevitability of the firestorm, due to severe drought conditions in the region and the long-standing federal policy of extinguishing minor fires, which allowed for the buildup of heavy fuels in the park over the years. Also explains the important contributions that fire makes to the life cycle of an ecosystem by releasing nutrients and promoting regeneration.
