An emotionally gripping war drama of the French-Vietnemese War in which the 317th Platoon of the French Army, consisting of four French commanders and 41 Laotians, is ordered to leave Luong Ba, Cambodia and retreat to Tao Tsai. The men begin their march and slowly succumb to the elements and ambushes. Days later, when what is left of the platoon finally reaches Tao Tsai, the camp is in enemy hands and the remnants of the 317th Platoon are killed in cold blood. Director Shoendoerffer portrays this struggle, conflict, and the quiet haunting tension of war with great skill. In French with English subtitles.
