Roddenberry, the creator of the original "Star Trek" television series, spearheaded this episodic reincarnation for network syndication. Set 80 or so years beyond the original, with an entirely new crew and a modernized vessel, it places less emphasis on violent solutions to conflicts than the original TV series. In this first installment, a powerful life force named "Q" threatens the lives of Captain Picard and his crew as they attempt to figure out what's going on at Farpoint Station. Look for a cameo by Kelley, "Bones" from the original series, as a very old man waxing nostalgic about the old U.S.S. Enterprise. Excellent production values, including fine special effects. Additional episodes available.
