"Chernobyl: Chronicle of Difficult Weeks" (1988; 58 min.) is a dramatic and disturbing look at the utter destruction caused by the 1986 meltdown of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor. The film's release was delayed by officials, but it was finally shown publicly after director Shevchenko died from radiation poisoning. "The BAM Zone: Permanent Residents" (1987; 18 min.) looks at the phenomenon of the Baikal-Amur Mainline railroad and how it symbolizes Brezhnev era stagnancy. In Russian with English subtitles.
