Freelance surveillance expert Harry Caul (Hackman) is becoming increasingly uneasy about his current job for a powerful businessman (Duvall). He and assistant Stan (Cazale) are watching a young couple (Williams, Forrest) when Harry begins to suspect that they are murder targets. Powerful statement about privacy, responsibility and guilt. One of the best movies of the '70s.
