Welcome once again to filmmaker Maddin's weird world. Peter Glahn (Whitney) is released from prison and travels back to his mythical home in Mandragora, where the sun never sets. At the family ostrich farm, his sister Amelia (Duvall) is smitten with Dr. Solti (Thompson) who has unearthed a mysterious statue of Venus that apparently has strange powers. And Peter gets involved with two women, Zephyr (Krige) and Julianna (Bussieres), who also have ties to the doctor. Deliberately artificial and hallucinatory.
