Following the mysterious suicide of her boyfriend, Lola (Abascal) heads for Madrid to research the Chinese side of her family, and to get clues surrounding her beau's strange behavior. There, she meets Sergio (Noriega), a nerdy government employee whose hobby is collecting data on Chinese immigrants. Together, they uncover an illegal immigrant smuggling ring, and Lola decides to take on the ruthless Triads. Director Santesmases allows the film to unfold at a deliberate pace, as another piece of the puzzle is revealed every few minutes. The problem is that most of the story seems very hackneyed. We've all seen the movie where the fearless girl influences the bookish guy, and the image of Chinese only being gangsters is getting very old. The bright spot in the film is Noriega, who sheds his playboy image and is quite good as the quiet Sergio.
