No, General George Washington did not cross the Delaware river standing in his boat as Emanuel Leutze's famous painting shows. But this historical story is still pretty darn exciting. On Christmas Day in 1776, it seems the American Revolution is destined for failure. Washington (Daniels) has only 2000 troops left and the Continental Army has continually been defeated by the British. But Washington wants to make a final push--a surprise attack on the Hessian garrison at Trenton. Adapted by Howard Fast from his novel.
