Northern Exposure: The First Episode Movie Review 1990

Staunch New Yorker, Dr. Joel Fleischman, finds himself in debt to the state of Alaska for the cost of his medical education. He's unwillingly sent to the small town of Cicely, population 500, where he experiences severe culture shock and meets the town's quirky and independent inhabitants. The laserdisc version contains two episodes of the television series per disc.
