Wild Palms Movie Review
No, the plot makes virtually no sense, but a series of striking images – none more surprising than the rhino in the swimming pool – make up for a lot. In 2007 Los Angeles, Harry (James Belushi) takes a job at a TV station that offers virtual reality programming to viewers, but this isn't benign technology. And what is the resistance up to? Dana Delany is stuck in a thankless role as his wife, Kim Cattrall is his former lover, but Angie Dickinson, cutting loose with everything she's got, has the most fun as Harry's power-mad mother-in-law who's also a sadistic co-conspirator of a nasty senator (Robert Loggia). Based on the comic strip by writer Wagner, this exercise in weird style over substance has been compared to Twin Peaks, but at least it has an ending. Executive producer Oliver Stone has a cameo which concerns the JFK conspiracy. In two parts. Look for lots of familiar faces in supporting roles.
