War of the Gargantuas Movie Review

Tokyo is once again the boxing ring for giant monsters. This time, instead of pseudo-dinosaurs, we have a not-so-jolly green giant called the gargantua. The green meanie emerges from the ocean to save a ship from a rubbery giant octopus before eating the crew (and spitting out their clothes afterwards). Suave American scientist-type Russ Tamblyn speculates on whether the beast is the adult version of a young ape-like critter he and his colleagues had found and lost some years before. When a gentle “brown gargantua” appears, Tamblyn decides that it's his original subject, who “may have scraped off some flesh on a rock” during his escape from the lab and thus engendered a clone of itself (?!). When the green gargantua won't mend its people-eating ways, its brother engages it in an apocalyptic, building-busting battle. This is fairly strange even for a Japanese monster flick. One scene in a nightclub features an incredible, jaw-drop-pingly awful song called “The Words Get Stuck in My Throat,” which is alone worth the rental price. This is the sequel to Frankenstein Conquers the World. AKA: Furankenshutain No Kaiju Sanda Tai Gailah; Sanda Tai Gailah; Duel of the Gargantuas; Frankenstein Monsters: Sanda Vs. Gairath.
