Videodrome Movie Review

Director David Cronenberg continues his exploration of both the evolution and the deterioration of the flesh. Cable programmer (James Woods) becomes hooked on the pirate TV show Videodrome, which delivers loads of real sex, real torture, and real murder. Along with the fun, the show is having an effect on his love life (with Deborah “Blondie” Harry), genetically altering his body (turning him into a human VCR) and blurring his view of reality. With his newly formed stomach orifice, he is easily programmed by organic videocassettes. While another director's use of such disgusting images might be off putting, Cronenberg's particularly sick fantasies tend to fascinate and demand further viewing. Special effects by Rick Baker. Stick around for the last scene, it may be the most perfect one you'll ever see. All hail the new flesh!
