Robot Monster Movie Review

This legendary golden turkey gives Plan 9 from Outer Space a run for its low budget as the worst movie of all time. The last six people on Earth – a professor, his wife and daughter, assistant, and two children – make their stand against Ro-Man, a ridiculous alien outfitted in a gorilla suit, topped by a deep sea diver's helmet. Ro-Man is instructed by his ruler, the Great One (not Jackie Gleason), to kill the Earthlings, but he is conflicted: “ To be like the hu-man. To laugh. Feel. Want. Why are these things not in the plan?” Shot in four days for less than $20,000. Director Phil Tucker (then 26 years old) went on to direct Dance Hall Racket, starring Lenny Bruce, and Cape Canaveral Monsters. The music is by the venerable Elmer Bernstein, who went on to score such classics as To Kill a Mockingbird, The Great Escape, The Magnificent Seven, and, yes, Cat Women of the Moon. AKA: Monsters from the Moon.
