Quatermass and the Pit Movie Review

While constructing a new subway, British workers unearth a Martian spaceship and insect-like alien remains. Professor Quatermass is called in, and through a telepathic link, is able to learn the history of the craft, the Martians, and mankind itself. Writer Nigel Kneale supplies speculation of the third, fourth, and occult kind, and in fact at one point, the dear professor refers to the “satanic” Martians. May have a little too much plot for the allotted time, but this is a fine example of good storytelling and grand-concept fllm-making done on a sparse budget. Based on Kneale's 1958 BBC serial and released in the U.S. as Five Million Miles to Earth.
