Q [The Winged Serpent] Movie Review

Aztec flying serpent god Quetzlcoatl is summoned to Manhattan by a modern-day high priest expert in the art of flaying human beings. Small-time crook and barroom pianist wanna-be Michael Moriarty stumbles across the beast's nest and becomes the unwilling teammate of copper David Carradine, trying both to stop the eating habits of the aforementioned, and at the same time not give up some recently acquired loot. The effects could have been better, but who cares? The winged thing gives great headless, devours a sun-bather or two, drops a few body parts around town, and causes mayhem throughout. Witty script by director Larry Cohen avoids most cliches, delivers the gore, and actually gives this monster movie's cast plenty to say (and/or eat). As with most of Cohen's films, Q has developed a cult following.

1982 (R) 92m/C Michael Moriarty, Candy Clark, David Carradine, Richard Roundtree; D: Larry Cohen; W: Larry Cohen. VHS, Beta MCA
