Planeta Burg Movie Review

A classic Soviet sci-fi flick about a space exploration team landing on Venus. Their job becomes a rescue mission when one of the crew is stranded. Along the way, they are threatened by volcanic eruptions, hostile plant life, monstrous animals, and other dangers. Although there are some silly moments, some good plot twists and acting make up for them. The robot “John” they take with them could easily rival Forbidden Planet’s Robby in personality – his final scene of self-sacrifice is truly touching. In Russian with English subtitles. Much footage from this was reused by American International and turned into Journey to a Prehistoric Planet (1965). AKA: Cosmonauts on Venus; Storm Planet; Planet of Storms.
