The Original Fabulous Adventures of Baron Munchausen Movie Review

Easily the most surrealistic screen telling of the life and times of history's most famous liar. Director Karel Zeman utilizes a unique blend of live action, art, animation, special effects, and his lyrical eye for the not-quite-real to create a world all its own. When a modern day astronaut is stranded on the moon, he is amazed enough just to meet the Baron, let alone return to Earth in Munchausen's sailing ship pulled by winged horses. Back on Earth, he is witness to some amazing adventures in a world not quite the same as the one he left. The lovable liar rescues a princess from a evil sultan, gets swallowed by a giant sea creature who has swallowed many ships whole, is carried off by a mythical Roc, and is desired and wooed by a mermaid before escaping on a giant sea horse. A fantasy masterpiece of big and little adventures. You'll wish that flowers could bloom as mystically in real life. AKA: The Fabulous Baron Munchausen.
