Mom and Dad Save the World Movie Review

Planet Spengo, populated entirely by idiots, plans to destroy Earth. But nasty King Tod spies through his telescope an average suburban housewife (Teri Garr) and falls in love. He teleports both Mr. and Mrs. to Spengo and postpones death-raying their world until he can marry Mom, dispose of Dad. Highlights are the goofy playpen sets, mixing vintage Flash Gordon style with Romper Room. Low-light is the misuse of a gifted cast in an attempt to do a picture that's so dumb it's funny, but only gets the dumb aspect correct. Very young viewers might be amused.

1992 (PG) 87m/C Teri Garr, Jeffrey Jones, Jon Lovitz, Eric Idle, Wallace Shawn, Dwier Brown, Kathy Ireland, Thalmus Rasulala; D: Greg Beeman; M: Jerry Goldsmith. VHS, LV HBO
