Liquid Sky Movie Review

Androgynous bisexual model (Anne Carlisle) living in Manhattan attracts a miniature UFO, which lands atop her penthouse. Its tiny, invisible occupant is in search of the chemical high it can only get by killing her sex partners in the throes of ecstasy, and a weird symbiotic relationship develops. Viewers either adore or despise this talky, one-of-a-kind weirdness directed by Russian expatriate Slava Tsukerman, but the Hound found it five times more creative than many mainstream astro-budget Hollywood productions, and despite the bizarre premise (perhaps because of it) the film succeeds in making its seedy punk environment completely real and believable. Look for Carlisle also playing a gay male. Title is slang for heroin.

1983 (R) 112m/C Anne Carlisle, Paula Sheppard, Bob Brady, Susan Doukas, Otto von Wernherr; D: Slava Tsukerman; W: Anne Carlisle; C: Yuri Neyman. VHS, Beta, LV MED
