Island of Dr. Moreau Movie Review

A wrong-headed remake of the 1933 classic Island of Lost Souls. Burt Lancaster is Dr. Moreau, a scientist who has isolated himself on a Pacific island in order to continue his chromosome research. He can transform animals into near-humans and humans into animals. He imprisons Michael York and nearly turns him into an animal. Barbara Carrera is a panther converted into a woman. The beast-man makeup is more impressive here than in the original movie, but the final product is too slick. Another regrettable adaptation of a classic H.G. Wells novel.

1977 (PG) 99m/C Burt Lancaster, Michael York, Nigel Davenport, Barbara Carrera, Richard Basehart, Nick Cravat; D: Don Taylor; W: John Herman Shaner, Al Ramus; C: Gerry Fisher. VHS, Beta WAR, OM
