Hideous Sun Demon Movie Review

A physicist exposed to radiation must stay out of sunlight or he will turn into a scaly, lizardlike creature. Although commonly lumped in with most other ‘50s monster pictures, this one can also be taken as an allegory for alcoholism. Star/director Robert Clarke hides from the Sun all day, but stays out all night in saloons, eventually alienating his friends as the monster within him gradually takes control. The scene of the maddened Clarke eating a rat was excised from most TV prints, but has been restored on video. AKA: Blood on His Lips; Terror from the Sun; The Sun Demon.

1959 75m/B Robert Clarke, Patricia Manning, Nan Peterson; D: Robert Clarke. VHS, Beta NOS, MRV, RHI
