Godzilla Vs. Biollante Movie Review

In this sequel to Godzilla 1985, Doctor Suriga-ma's secret plant formula could free the industrialized world from oil dependency. He also runs his pet Godzilla experiment from the same laboratory. When terrorist thieves attempt to steal the plant formula, a petri dish mixup unleashes Biollante, a titanic rose-monster. Yes, that was rose-monster. As if a gigantic rosebush wasn't enough, Godzilla soon arrives to do some more Tokyo sight-seeing. The world's only hope may lie in the tendrils of Biollante. This film may come as a surprise to long-time fans of the Godzilla series; it's visually lush and the tone is considerably moodier and more poetic than earlier entries. Biollante is a memorable, startling monster. First appearance by psychic girl Miki Saegusa (Megumi Odaka), who became a series regular. The same team returned in 1991 for the even-better Godzilla Vs. King Ghidorah, which awaits a U.S. release. Viewers received an unexpected bonus when HBO “accidentally” transferred this to video in widescreen format.
