God Told Me To Movie Review

When this Larry Cohen-directed opus hit the screens, many TV stations refused to run the original trailer, fearing its nature too offensive. Religious New York cop (Tony LoBianco) is investigating a series of grisly murders. In each case when the murderers are questioned for their motives, they simply state “God told me to.” In true Cohen fashion, this is no ordinary murder thriller. LoBianco quickly becomes embroiled in the occult, finding his belief systems challenged by a “religious” cult composed of not-so-ordinary worshipers and a not-so-traditional “god.” One of Cohen's best. AKA: Demon.

1976 (R) 89m/C Tony LoBianco, Deborah Raffin, Sylvia Sidney, Sandy Dennis, Richard Lynch, Andy Kaufman; D: Larry Cohen; W: Larry Cohen. VHS, Beta, LV NLC
