Gamera Vs. Barugon Movie Review

The monstrous turtle returns to Earth after being freed from his outer-space prison by a passing meteor, and battles with 130-foot lizard Barugon, who comes equipped with a rainbow melting ray and a freeze gas shooting tongue. This strange beast hatched from an egg smuggled to Japan from New Guinea, and has been raising hell ever since. Tokyo and Osaka get melted and/or frozen in the process. The first sequel to Gamera, the Invincible (the first in color) is not quite as silly as those that came later, and the battle scenes even achieve a sort of goofy grandeur. This Barugon is not to be confused with the monster Baragon, featured in Toho's Frankenstein Conquers the World. Star Kojiro Hongo returned for two more Gamera films. Noriyaki Yuasa, who'd done a competent job directing the initial entry in the series, stepped down to concentrate on only the special effects. AKA: Gamera Tai Barugon; Gambara Vs. Barugon; The War of the Monsters.
