The Fly 2 Movie Review

Although inferior to Cronenberg's opus, this sequel continues the study of the decay of the flesh and how it affects the mental and emotional as well as the physical. Martin (Eric Stoltz), son of fly/man Seth Brundle, achieves full genius maturity in five years. Machiavellian industrialist Anton Bartok (Lee Richardson) cares about his ward about as much as he cares for his other experimental animals, but the sheltered Martin loves him as a father. Computer operator Beth (Daphne Zuniga) awakens Martin's human desires and makes him long for a life outside the confines of his laboratory. Continuing his father's work to perfect the teleportation device, Martin's insect genes (note title of film) begin to transform him into a powerful if pathetic son-of fly/man. Like father like son. Director Chris Walas handled the special effects and won the Academy Award for Best Makeup for the 1986 The Fly.
