Evil Spawn Movie Review

Fading movie queen takes an experimental drug to restore her youthful beauty, but side effects turn her into a giant silverfish, or something. Watch for a quick cameo by Forrest J. Ackerman as a pool cleaner. Sleazy 16mm semi-remake of The Wasp Woman (with better makeup f/x) opens with a John Carradine scene shot for a never-completed Frankenstein project. Released under several alternate titles with varying running times, Evil Spawn was later itself re-assembled into the Fred Olen Ray production The Alien Within. Ray's book The New Poverty Row tells a making-of account that's more fun than anything happening onscreen. AKA: Deadly Sting; Alive by Night; Alien Within. WOOF!
