Conan the Destroyer Movie Review

Not as violent or as mythical (although maybe more mythological) as the superior Conan the Barbarian, Academy Award-winning director Richard Fleischer's Conan is still good campy fun. This time evil queen Tamaris challenges Conan (Arnold Schwarzenegger) to accompany a beautiful princess in a quest for a magic treasure. If the treasure and the princess's honor return intact, Conan's dead lover Valeria will be brought back to life. Joining Arnold on his quest are singer Grace Jones and hoopster Wilt Chamberlain. Highlights include the evil wizard Thoth-aman, who turns into a giant vulture, and the battle with the dreaming god Dagoth (designed by Carlo Rambaldi, who created E.T.), who wants to turn the entire universe into darkness.

1984 (PG) 101m/C Arnold Schwarzenegger, Grace Jones, Wilt Chamberlain, Sarah Douglas, Mako, Jeff Corey, Olivia D'Abo; D: Richard Fleischer; C: Jack Cardiff; M: Basil Poledouris. Golden Raspberry Awards ‘84: Worst New Star (D'Abo). VHS, Beta, LV MCA
