Club Extinction Movie Review

Claude Chabrol, French filmmaker best known for thrillers in a Hitchcockian vein, pays tribute to vintage German movie ubergangster Dr. Mabuse (sort of a James Bond supervillain long before 007 showed up) in this arcane international coproduction, dumped straight into the American home-video market. Mystery tycoon Dr. Marsfeldt has an artificial heart powered by human suffering. Dwelling in his futuristic hideout beneath an industrial-music club, he employs both media idol Jennifer Beals and a New Age resort in a hypnotism scheme to drive Berlin citizens to commit mass suicide. His explanation: “I am the Wall.” Yeah, whatever. AKA: Docteur M.
