The Bride of Frankenstein Movie Review

The classic sequel to the classic original. When his wife is kidnapped by his old associate Dr. Pretorious (Ernest Thesiger, in a highly amusing role), Dr. Frankenstein (Colin Clive) is forced to help build a mate for his monster. More humor than the first, but also more pathos, including the monster's famous but short-lived friendship with a blind hermit, who teaches the monster to speak. Karloff's monster is once again touching and frightening at the same time. The unhappy, neurotic Clive disliked playing in horror films, which may have added to his tortured performances in them. Elsa Lanchester plays both the bride and Mary Shelley in the opening sequence. Una O'Connor contributes standout comedy relief. Features a spectacular score by Franz Waxman.
