The Asphyx Movie Review

Clever sf/horror set in the 19th century, where doctor Robert Stephens uses the newly developed invention of photography to detect the Asphyx, an aura that surrounds a person just before death. Trapping one's Asphyx can provide the key to immortality, but it has to be done very carefully, or else…. The briefly glimpsed entity, a hideous puppet in double-exposure, testifies to the low budget of the proceedings; it's the script concepts and fine acting that give this moralistic occult tale its haunting impact. AKA: Spirit of the Dead.

1972 (PG) 98m/C GB Robert Stephens, Robert Powell, Jane Lapotaire, Alex Scott, Ralph Arliss, Fiona Walker, John Lawrence; D: Peter Newbrook; C: Frederick A. (Freddie) Young. VHS, Beta MED
