The Amazing Transparent Man Movie Review

A mad scientist is forced to make a crook invisible in order to steal the radioactive materials he needs. A snaky crime boss has them both under his thumb. The crook decides to rob banks instead. Shot at the Texas State Fair in Dallas for that elusive futuristic look. For Ulmer fans only – don't expect another Detour. Aside from some exterior shots that emphasize the barren Texas plains, the direction is merely pedestrian, with little of Edgar Ulmer's usual visual magic. The invisibility transformation effects are great looking – instead of merely fading away, portions of the actor are wiped gradually. Made simultaneously with Beyond the Time Barrier. Marguerite Chapman was also in Charlie Chan at the Wax Museum (1940), Spy Smasher Returns (1942), and Flight to Mars (1952).
