LIFE AND NOTHING MORE … Movie Review
And Life Goes On…
Zendegi Va Digar Hich…
Following a catastrophic earthquake in northern Iran, a filmmaker who recently worked in the stricken area returns with his son to discover the fates of those he knew. Iran's master filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami examines the impact of a disaster on a human population by showing it through the eyes of a storyteller—a man who is used to supplying a neat and organized structure for his portraits of the human condition. This is one of Kiarostami's most beautiful and eloquent films, a profound and uninsistent look at a shattered population attempting to restore the structure of real life, which, it turns out, must be as carefully and diligently ordered as any work of art. One of the most talked-about films at the 1992 Cannes and New York Film Festivals, And Life Goes On was a breakthrough film for Kiarostami, and an important moment in the history of Iranian cinema.
