FULL MOON IN PARIS Movie Review

Les Nuits de la Pleine

Louise (Pascale Ogier) is feeling suffocated in her relationship with her architect boyfriend. Explaining to the befuddled guy that she needs her own space, Louise takes a small apartment in Paris where she can be on her own. But space, it seems, it not what Louise really gravitates toward, and before long she's being pushed and pulled into relationships without even realizing it. Eric Rohmer's charming comedy features a truly enchanting performance from Ogier, whose confusion, misunderstandings, and disappointments become palpably poignant. Rohmer's comedy isn't so much about situations as it is about the human response to them. We feel for his characters because no matter how absurd the situations they get into, their indecisiveness and simple human weaknesses are reassuring, refreshing, and familiar. Those are real people up there on the screen, and they're terrific company.
